Meta returns to open models with Zuckerberg's plan to out-copy China and sell compute by auction

Meta released Muse Glimmer, a 30B open model from its Superintelligence Labs that can run on consumer hardware with compressed weights using under 20 GB of memory. Mark Zuckerberg’s accompanying essay defends model distillation and fewer restrictions on US AI labs; WSJ reports an open-weight Muse Spark 1.2 may follow.
