Germany puts Google's AI Overviews and Perplexity under media law in first-of-its-kind ruling
German media regulators have ruled that Google’s AI Overviews and Perplexity’s answers fall under the country’s State Media Treaty, saying they are provider content rather than neutral search results and can crowd out links. Both companies have one month to appeal.
