AI ‘will do more to boost fossil fuel production than green energy’
A study modeling 64 scenarios found AI could increase annual energy-sector emissions by 0.47–1.8 gigatonnes as gains in fossil-fuel production outweigh avoided emissions from renewables. It also estimated AI could expand recoverable oil and gas reserves by 5% and cut deepwater project costs by 10%.
