AI models often give the right answers but point to the wrong sources

Researchers at Peking University found that leading AI models such as GPT and Gemini often produce correct answers in document analysis but cite passages that do not support those answers. They call this mismatch "attribution hallucination" and warn it may be risky in regulated fields like law and medicine.
